Self Sustaining Resources

A flock of Rhode Island red layer chickens is $25.00.   The chickens are given to aids groups to get more protein in their diet and improve their lives. Then they build up their flock. Last year a farmer raised them for 5 weeks before we gave them away. We gave away 800 last year.  userfiles/file/Chickens_Certificate.pdf

School uniforms can be purchased for $25.00.  It enables a needy child to have the opportunity to go to school.  See School Uniform Certificate to help with children's school uniform.  userfiles/file/School_Uniform_Certificate.pdf

You can help with the cost of the talipia pond. The groups dig their own pond. One pond took 8 men one week to dig. With the manpower we can furnish them with a pond for $1,200.00.  This fast growing fish improves their diet and provides an income for the group. The sites are chosen by their ability to maintain the pond. Last year, 3 church groups and an orphanage were the proud benefactors. To date, we have paid for 8 in the kaaga synod

A medical clinic with doctors and all the medicine cost $1,500.00-$1,800.00 perday. In 2011 we had 1,328 patients  in 2 days. All received free medicine and vegetable seeds. We request they have the soil prepared for the garden. Seeds are given to all the aids groups [22] disabled and womens groups.

Gifts of vegetable seeds have helped us start community gardens at the sights that are prepared before our arrival. Vegetable seeds are given to all the aids, disabled, and womens groups. There are 22 organized aids groups in the churchs where we work.

Gifts of frisbees, soccer balls and soft balls are so fun to distribute to the schools. Soccer balls are about $25.00 in Kenya.  Frisbees we take from the states.  They had never seen them until we started taking them 3 years ago.  We also take pens and pencils and other things for the schools. We often buy rice and beans in 50# bags for the schools where it is needed the most.

Last year we organized some groups to empower the women to start a small businesses to  earn extra money for their families. They can present [or tell] of their plan and borrow the amount needed from the group. They pay it back and the next person has a turn. It helps them have a better life and be the best they can be. Often they only need $10.00 or $20.00
